Worldwide Express says a Bedrock multi-agent system cut freight billing exceptions by 75%

According to an AWS case study, Worldwide Express automated billing exceptions in its less-than-truckload freight business with three AI agents running on Amazon Bedrock. Six months after launch, the company says its exception backlog fell from $15 million to $4 million, time-to-cash improved by four weeks and about $10 million in cash flow was freed up.

Why it matters

The agents handle invoice matching, pricing variances and accessorial charges, with each carrier’s tariffs and dispute rules stored in a knowledge base rather than coded per carrier. A human reviewed recommendations at first, and bulk approval became the default once accuracy passed 99%, the company says.

These are vendor-reported results, but the staged shift from human review to bulk approval is a useful pattern for finance and operations teams.

For business & IT

Before automating back-office exceptions, define the accuracy threshold at which human review can be relaxed and measure it on your own invoices.
